Tools

Every Porch tool with its parameters, results and annotations.

Porch has ten tools. All of them except create_inbox take the inbox_key it returns. Every tool declares an output schema and returns its result as structured content (also mirrored as JSON text), and errors come back as tool errors with a message that says what to do next.

This page is generated from the server's own tool definitions, so it always matches what your client sees.

Tool What it does
create_inbox Get a public URL that records every HTTP request sent to it, plus the inbox_key that all other tools need.
get_inbox Show an inbox: its URL, expiry, request count, latest request id, configured responses and approval links.
list_requests List captured requests as summaries, oldest first.
get_request Full details of one captured request: method, path, parsed query, headers, body (UTF-8 text or base64), plus "json" or "form" when the body parses.
wait_for_request Block until a request arrives, then return it in full (same shape as get_request).
set_response Choose what Porch sends back to callers, for the whole inbox or a sub-path: status, headers and body.
create_approval_link Make a link to send a person when you need their decision ("Deploy to production?").
wait_for_approval Block until the person answers an approval link, then return their choice.
clear_requests Delete all captured requests from the inbox.
delete_inbox Delete the inbox and everything it captured.

create_inbox#

Writes

Result#

Field Type Description
inbox_id string
url string The public URL. Any sub-path and any HTTP method is accepted.
created_at string
expires_at string When the inbox is deleted at the latest.
deleted_if_idle_until string When the inbox is deleted if no tool call uses its key before then.
request_count number
latest_request_id string | null

}

get_request#

Read-onlyIdempotent

Full details of one captured request: method, path, parsed query, headers, body (UTF-8 text or base64), plus "json" or "form" when the body parses. wait_for_request#

Writes

Block until a request arrives, then return it in full (same shape as get_request). By default it returns the next request not yet returned by wait_for_request for this inbox and these filters, so nothing that arrives between calls is missed, including requests that came in before the first call. Times out after timeout_seconds (default 30, max 300) with timed_out: true; call it again to keep waiting.

Parameters#

Name Type Required Description
inbox_key string Yes The inbox_key returned by create_inbox (starts with "porch_sk_").
timeout_seconds integer No How long to wait (default 30, max 300). (1–3600)
after string No Start after this request id instead of the saved position. "start" includes everything stored; "latest" waits for something new. Explicit positions are not saved.
method string No Only requests with this HTTP method, e.g. "POST". (up to 16 characters)
path_prefix string No Only requests whose path (after the inbox URL) starts with this, e.g. "/stripe". (up to 512 characters)

Result#

Field Type Description
timed_out boolean
request object
cursor string The position after this call. Pass as "after" to continue from here explicitly.
waited_seconds number

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…",
  "path_prefix": "/stripe",
  "timeout_seconds": 120
}
result
{
  "timed_out": false,
  "cursor": "req_4",
  "request": {
    "id": "req_4",
    "method": "POST",
    "path": "/stripe",
    "json": {
      "type": "invoice.paid"
    }
  }
}

set_response#

WritesIdempotent

Choose what Porch sends back to callers, for the whole inbox or a sub-path: status, headers and body. Useful for webhook verification handshakes, or a friendly page after an OAuth redirect (or a 302 with a Location header). Pages are served in a browser sandbox: scripts and forms do not run. Pass reset: true to go back to the default.

Parameters#

Name Type Required Description
inbox_key string Yes The inbox_key returned by create_inbox (starts with "porch_sk_").
path_prefix string No Apply to this path and everything below it (default "/", the whole inbox). The longest matching prefix wins.
status integer No HTTP status code (default 200). (200–599)
headers record<string, string> No Extra response headers, e.g. {"Location": "https://example.com/done"}.
body string No Response body (up to 64 KB).
content_type string No Content-Type of the body (default text/plain, or text/html if the body starts with "<").
reset boolean No Remove the response set for path_prefix and fall back to the default.

Result#

Field Type Description
ok boolean
applies_to string
response object | null

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…",
  "path_prefix": "/oauth/callback",
  "body": "<h1>Signed in</h1><p>You can close this tab.</p>"
}
result
{
  "ok": true,
  "applies_to": "https://porch.okibi.ai/i/Xk3vQ9cT2bW8nR1aLp0sYg/oauth/callback",
  "response": {
    "kind": "static",
    "path_prefix": "/oauth/callback",
    "status": 200,
    "headers": {
      "content-type": "text/html; charset=utf-8"
    },
    "body_bytes": 48
  }
}

Writes

Make a link to send a person when you need their decision ("Deploy to production?"). It opens a page with your title, message and one button per choice. Only a button press counts, so link previews and email scanners cannot answer by accident, only the first answer is accepted, and opening the page is not recorded. Then call wait_for_approval.

Parameters#

Name Type Required Description
inbox_key string Yes The inbox_key returned by create_inbox (starts with "porch_sk_").
title string Yes The question, shown as the page heading. (up to 200 characters)
message string No Optional details shown under the title (plain text). (up to 4000 characters)
choices string[] No Button labels (default ["Approve", "Deny"]). The first is highlighted. (1–6 items, each up to 60 characters)

Result#

Field Type Description
url string
path string
choices string[]
next string

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…",
  "title": "Deploy v1.4.0 to production?",
  "message": "3 migrations, 12 commits since v1.3.9.",
  "choices": [
    "Deploy",
    "Hold"
  ]
}
result
{
  "url": "https://porch.okibi.ai/i/Xk3vQ9cT2bW8nR1aLp0sYg/approve/q9Zr4Tb1",
  "path": "/approve/q9Zr4Tb1",
  "choices": [
    "Deploy",
    "Hold"
  ],
  "next": "Send the url to the person, then call wait_for_approval with path \"/approve/q9Zr4Tb1\"."
}

wait_for_approval#

Read-onlyIdempotent

Block until the person answers an approval link, then return their choice. Returns at once if it was already answered. On timeout, call it again.

Parameters#

Name Type Required Description
inbox_key string Yes The inbox_key returned by create_inbox (starts with "porch_sk_").
path string Yes The path returned by create_approval_link, e.g. "/approve/AbC123". The full URL works too.
timeout_seconds integer No How long to wait (default 30, max 300). (1–3600)

Result#

Field Type Description
answered boolean
choice string
request_id string
answered_at string
timed_out boolean
waited_seconds number
url string

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…",
  "path": "/approve/q9Zr4Tb1",
  "timeout_seconds": 300
}
result
{
  "answered": true,
  "choice": "Deploy",
  "request_id": "req_7",
  "answered_at": "2026-10-18T12:09:41.000Z"
}

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…"
}
result
{
  "cleared": 7
}

delete_inbox#

WritesDestructiveIdempotent

Parameters#

Name Type Required Description
inbox_key string Yes The inbox_key returned by create_inbox (starts with "porch_sk_").

Result#

Field Type Description
deleted boolean

Example#

call
{
  "inbox_key": "porch_sk_…"
